" GPT-5 is like talking to a PhD expert on any topic," OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said during the presentation, assuring that it will be useful for "businesses and developers."
Altman also highlighted the usefulness of GPT-5 for health issues, one of the most popular categories among ChatGPT users, giving the example of a cancer patient who used the tool to understand the disease and "make decisions" about her treatment.
OpenAI's programming leaders pointed out during the presentation that it is the most reliable and factual artificial intelligence (AI) model produced to date, capable not only of answering questions, but also of creating programs by writing code from a 'prompt', a simple instruction.
The new model can complete software engineering tasks, they assured.
"We're moving beyond just encoding vibrations," explained one of OpenAI's developers, referring to users who use language models to build digital applications or services from scratch.
Among other developments, the OpenAI team indicated that GPT-5's "hallucination" rate, which refers to its errors, is lower compared to previous versions, and that it has been trained to recognize when it cannot complete a task, avoiding speculation and reducing inaccurate results.
OpenAI announced that ChatGPT has reached 700 million users, with five million using the paid version every week, according to data cited by the Associated Press (AP).
The company launched ChatGPT in November 2022 and has positioned itself as one of the leaders in the AI market, which has grown exponentially since then, with large technology companies competing in the race for "artificial superintelligence", which they consider increasingly close, according to the EFE agency.
Immediately following OpenAI's announcement, software company Microsoft, a key OpenAI partner, announced that GPT-5 was trained on its Azure platform and that it will incorporate this new model into a wide variety of products and services for individual and business users, as well as developers.
For these, OpenAI has released three versions of GPT-5 through its application programming interface (the area where information is exchanged), designed for different needs.
Following the announcement of the new GPT-5 model, Elon Musk said that his AI company, XAI, will launch Grok 5, "a cutting-edge multimodal model," later this year, and that its current version of the chatbot is already superior to OpenAI's new one.
The owner of Social Network X and Tesla wrote: "Grok 4 Heavy (G4H) was smarter two weeks ago than GPT5 is now, and G4H is already much better."
"Grok 5 will be released before the end of this year and it will be devastatingly good," Musk commented in another message on the X network.
